What is Dua Kunut?

In the daily five-time prayer, Surah-Kerat, Darood, Tashahud, Duaya Masura and various prayers are recited. It is necessary to read these in prayer. Another act like this prayer is – Doa Kunut. Doa Kunut is considered one of the most valuable prayers. Through this dua important requests are made to Allah. Doa Qunut Rasool (PBUH) used to recite sometimes.

Abdullah Ibn Abbas (RA) said, ‘I was with the Prophet (PBUH) one night. He got out of bed and prayed two rakats. Then he got up and recited the Witar. He recited Surah A’la after Fateha in the first Rak’at. Then he bowed and prostrated. In the second rak’ah recited Fateha and Kafirun and performed Ruku-Sajdah. He recited Fateha and Ikhlas in the third rakat. Then he recited Kunut before Ruku.’ (Kitabul Hujjah: 1/201; Nasbur Rayah: 2/124).

 

What is the Prayer?

Dua Qunut is the dua recited in the third rak’ah of the Witr prayer, combining Surah Fatiha with the takbeer. There are many important requests to Allah in this prayer. According to the Hanafi Madhhab, it is obligatory to recite dua kunut in witr prayer.

 

Arabic Pronunciation of Doa Qunut

Allahumma inna nastayinuka wa nastaag firuka, wanu’minu bika wa natawakkalu alaika wa nuchni alaikal khair. Wa naskuruka wala nak furuka, wanakhlau uanat ruku maiyafjuruka. Allahumma yayakana’budu walaka nuchalli, wanas judu wa ilaika nasya; Wa nahfidu wa narju rahmataka, wa naksha azabaka; Inna Azabaka Bilkuffari Mulhik.

O Allah! We want your help. We remain grateful to you, not ungrateful. O Allah! To You we serve, to You we pray and to You we prostrate. To you we run and move forward. We seek Your mercy and fear Your punishment. And your punishment is destined for the disbelievers.
